Minolta-QMS PagePro 1250W Laser Printer Review

For around $200 you get great value with the Minolta-QMS PagePro 1200W. True 1200 by 1200 dpi monochrome printing and low running costs make this laser printer a perfect choice for offices with low to moderate print volumes.

Fantastic laser printer value

I'm very fond of this printer. It's been said for a while that laser printers are becoming mainstream but it is printers like the Minolta-QMS PagePro 1200W that make this statement true.

For the money this Minolta laser printer makes sense

With outstanding print quality and low price you might think that this is a miracle laser printer. This is true for small or moderate volume users but people who need a high volume design will want to look elsewhere.

For instance the 8mb memory cannot be expanded and will definitely put the slow down on big print jobs. Furthermore the low input and output paper capacity will also frustrate you if you print large documents. With only 150 sheets possible in the input tray and 100 in the output tray this will be a serious limitation to some users but no bother at all to others. To be fair as an optional extra a 500-sheet cassette can be added (letter or A4).

Another benefit the Minolta-QMS PagePro 1200W offers to moderate volume printers is the super low running costs of only a couple of cents a sheet.

At this price there's obviously no ethernet port but there is both USB and parallel connectors. Another important fact consideration is that this is a Windows only printer.

Here are the specifications:

  • black: up to 17 ppm
  • 8mb memory (not expandable)
  • Total Input Media Capacity 150 sheets
  • 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi for monchrome documents
  • Maximum Duty Cycle: 15,000 prints/month

Minolta-QMS PagePro 1200W, the perfect low to moderate volume laser printer?

Well I actually think so. If you need cheap monochrome laser printing then this is the printer for you. With a low price and low cost consumables this printer cannot be beaten on price.

As for performance, well text looks very crisp, with no blurring or washing. Graphics did suffer from some banding and the toner does seem to turn images out slightly darker than expected. Performance is very good for the price.

All in all if your looking to get cheap laser printer that will reduce your total printing costs then the Minolta-QMS PagePro 1200W is for you. If you have need of high volumes now or in the future you'd probably be better off with a design from OKi.
